BACK TO THE BRICKS
MONTHLY UPDATE
- A lot to report on this month so let’s get started. A number of the ‘B2B’ committee members met with some of the Flint Journal staff this past week to discuss their ‘B2B’ promotional plans and they have a lot of good ideas for this year’s event. First, they will be running their ‘Cyber Cruise In’ again this year and will be looking forward to receiving your entries of your favorite ‘ride’. Once again, the winner will be receiving one of the ‘valued’ power parking spaces right on the front side of the flat lot in downtown Flint on Saturday, August 18th. The Flint Journal will also be giving out some valued prizes to the winner so get the cars polished up and submit your photos to the Flint Journal. Winners will be determined by the number of votes entrant receives and the car that receives the most votes’ wins. Look for details to appear in the Flint Journal and on MLive on the internet soon.
- We have a couple of new ‘Gold Level’ sponsors that I would like to introduce to you at this time and the first up are ‘Security Credit Union’. They have five offices in Flint and additional offices in Lapeer, Saginaw and Shiawassee Counties. Security Credit Union is full fledge banking institution offering competitive financing on autos, homes, home improvement and any other items that you might need financing on. Talking with Executive Vice-President, John Sayer, he informed me that they would like to set-up instant car financing ‘on the Bricks’ on Saturday, August 18th. How about that! Find a car that is up for sale and that you like, you could conceivably be driving home that same day. Now that is service! Additionally, Security Credit Union has agreed to be the sponsor of the third annual ‘Heart of Michigan Tour’ Kick-off breakfast which will be held from 7AM until about 9AM on Friday, June 15th, 2012. The breakfast will be served to all that have registered for the tour and breakfast will be served at the IINN building which is located at the corner of Saginaw Street and Hemphill Road in Flint. What better way to start the ‘Tour’ then with a full belly! Be sure to stop by and thank them for their support of the ‘Back to the Bricks’ and a great breakfast.
- Our next ‘Gold ‘ Level sponsor is ‘Lipe Industrial Services’ which is headquarter out of Rockford, Michigan which is near Grand Rapids. They specialize in resinous industrial floor coverings of heavy duty poly urethane coatings. Brian SeKrenes, Project Manager, volunteered their services to finish our newly acquired ‘Back to the Bricks’ office which is located in the IINN complex and located on South Saginaw Street. Brian, with the assistance of his father and fellow ‘B2B’ committee member, has put in a lot of hours preparing the floor and I must say it looks great. Did I forget to tell you they can coat your garage floor for you? They can and I can assure you the DIY guys are not in the same league! They can be reached 1-616-863-8731 or Brian’s cell phone is 1-810-577-6333.
- I met with Gary Drago, Chairman of the 3rd Annual Corvette Reunion, and he informed me that the ‘National Corvette Museum’ from Bowling Green, Kentucky will be joining us for the second year in a row. Gary said they are expecting considerable growth in attendance of Corvette owners for this year. Last year, they had well over 500 hundred Corvettes on display and the number will be bigger this year. If also informed me that they will also have a number of vendors that have just Corvette memorabilia for sale and one of the items is a custom monogrammed shirt with a picture of your Corvette embroidered on it. You won’t find that at many car shows! Get the Corvettes out and make this the largest Corvette show in Michigan!
- Charles Tuff, chairman of the ‘North Mega-Site’ which is located at Robert T. Longway and Saginaw Street, informed me that they have plenty of room for additional vendors for the ‘Rolling Cruise’ which is held on Wednesday, August 15th and Thursday, August 16th. Their location is in the white lot which is owned by the University of Michigan-Flint. The lot has plenty of parking and great exposure for auto traffic and foot traffic. If you have something you would like to vend (sorry, they are all set for food vendors), emaI Charles at charlestuff@comcast.netHe is looking forward to hearing from you.
- That’s it for this month and one final thing; if you have signed up for the ‘Heart of Michigan Tour’ yet, you still have a couple of weeks to do so. Registrations are running ahead of last year and this year’s tour will ultimately provide you and your family with some great memories. To get the registration form, visit our website www.backtothebricks.org, click on the ‘event’s tab, and then the ‘Heart of Michigan Tour’ logo and your are there. It can’t get any easier than that.
Cordially,
Al Hatch, Chairman
