1. . IThis
past Monday, fellow committee members Steve Hobson, Denny
Keyworth and I spent the entire day meeting with the owners of
the host sites along the fourteen mile cruise route that runs
from the Oakland/Genesee counties line. I have to tell you,
they are all very excited about this year’s ‘Back to the
Bricks’ and are looking forward to hosting the car cruisers
and spectators. Many of them will be offering food specials
along with live entertainment and of course lots of cars. One
of the stops, Young Life, will have a ‘50’s’ dinner theme with
live entertainment. The Hot Dog Stand in Grand Blanc is ready
to go as is Rocky’s in Burton. We met with Ron Sims, one of
the owners of the Torch Bar and they have applied for an
outdoor tent permit to set up a tent in Buckhman Alley.
Anyone who knows Flint knows of the famous Torch Burger and
might want to make that one of the stops on any of the four
days of our show. The American Legion in Grand Blanc will
once again be offering free hot dogs to the cruisers along
with $1 ‘barley pop’ specials on domestic products. Look
forward to seeing big participation and big crowds again this
year and remember the ‘Rolling Cruise’ is a ‘at will ‘cruise
and you can come and leave as you please and start and stop
anywhere on the route you please. Starting time is officially
at 6PM in the evening but we know the cruisers will be out a
lot sooner than that. It’s a lot of fun and we hope to see
you, your car and your family and friends out on the route.

Breaking news. WHNN 96.1 has
agreed to sponsor a Friday early morning breakfast for the
owners of show cars. It will be an ‘all you can eat’ pancake
breakfast with sausage, juice and coffee. It will be limited
to the first 500 people showing up in show cars. Each person
who is physically in the car will receive a ticket for a
‘free’ breakfast. Did I say ‘free breakfast’? Yes I did!
Johnny Burke, the morning host on 96.1 said, ‘Al, let’s get
the cruisers out early in the morning and let’s start serving
breakfast at 6:00AM and let’s serve it to 10:00AM! And we
will serve it for ‘free’ to help offset the high gas prices!
Of course we said ‘that sounds good to us’!
So,
free breakfast for the first 500 people showing up in show
cars between the hours of 6AM to 10AM on Friday morning,
August 15th, 2008. Johnny will be broadcasting
live and on site at the location of the tent which will be at
the University of Michigan-Flint’s parking lot located at the
corner of Saginaw and Robert T. Longway.

It doesn’t stop here, Mark
Cormier, part owner of Duke’s Car Stereo with locations in
Flint, Saginaw and Bay City, with be serving a ‘free’ hot dog
lunch at their Dort Highway location in Flint beginning at
11:00AM until 3:00PM on Friday, August 15th, 2008
to anyone showing up in a show car. Duke’s Car Stereo will
have an array of ‘in store’ specials and more for participants
to take advantage of. So, free breakfast with Johnny Burke of
96.1 and free lunch hosted by Duke’s Car Stereo, what more can
you ask for? It’s free and oh by the way; the hotdogs are
Koegel’s brand.
New
this year is the Women’s Marketplace in the University of
Michigan-Flint pavilion. The pavilion is located across
Kearsley Street from the flat lot. Open from 10:00 AM to 5:00
PM you can enjoy a shoulder and neck massage, haircut, hot wax
hand treatment, make a scrapbook item and send a greeting
card. Along with lots of shopping, representatives from the
Master Gardeners program, McLaren Wellness Center, University
of Michigan-Flint, and Woodfield Country Club will present
information on many different areas of interest. There are
also five restaurants as well as Barnes and Noble bookstore
open in the pavilion and its air conditioned!
Also for the first time at the Back to
the Bricks show, the Masonic Temple will be open serving a
country style breakfast and in the afternoon their famous
chicken dinners!
We
are only a short four weeks away from our 4th
Annual ‘Back to the Bricks’ and just about everything has been
finalized. We are anticipating over 15,000 participants this
year and over 100,000 spectators. It truly is going to be
grand weekend. It is with interest and pride that the ‘Back
to Bricks’ has been named one of the ‘Top 50’ car events in
America and we are honored to have received that kind of
recognition from the staff at ‘Old Cars Weekly’. Help us
spread the word and for those who have attended our event in
the past, ask any of them, and we believe that they too, would
agree with ‘Old Cars Weekly’, it is a show to come to.
Of
course none of this could not be possible without the
generosity of all of sponsors and the participants which go
hand-in-hand in making the ‘Back to the Bricks’ the success it
has enjoyed. To all of you, our hats are off to each and
every one of you. You are the true ‘stars’ of the ‘Back to
the Bricks’.
That’s
it for this month. We will see you in a short four weeks.
Cordially,
Al
Hatch, Chairman
Back
to the Bricks Cruise and Car Show
